What is Islam, and what is believed by Muslims?

Islam began in the early 7th century AD by a man named Muhammad. He claimed to have been visited by the angel Gabriel. During these angelic visitations, which continued for 23 years until the death of Muhammad, the angel said to Mohammad revealed word of God. This is the revelation that dictated the contents of the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam. Islam teaches that the Qur'an is the supreme authority and the final revelation of God.

Muslims, followers of Islam, believe that the Qur'an is the word of God who was and is perfect. Moreover, many Muslims who reject the Qur'an in the other language versions. Translation is not a valid version of the Qur'an that only exists in Arabic. Although the Qur'an is the holy book of the main, the Sunnah is seen as a second source of religious instruction. Sunnah written by Muhammad's companions what was said, done and approved by Muhammad.

The main belief of Islam is that Allah is the one and true God and Muhammad is the messenger of God. Suffice it to say this belief, people can enter Islam.

There are berbendapat Islam is built on five cases, based on the following hadith:
"Islam is built on five cases testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establish the prayer, zakat issued, the pilgrimage to the House, and fasting in Ramadan." (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)
People who understand Islam are the five cases, he would have to practice according to their understanding. It will only do the creed, prayer, charity, pilgrimage and fasting Ramadan. He'll feel pretty when it is practiced five cases, and did not see the rest again. Many Muslims today are stuck in this kind of understanding Islam. There is even a famous spiritual training flight of millions of dollars that make the idea of Islam as five cases of their main principles.
In ancient times, parents often teach their children that Islam is the dawn, midday, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. Again, a lot of Muslims who understand Islam as this, then the practice was limited to understanding it, nothing more.
For some Muslims the other, so they do not even understand what Islam actually is. Islam for them like a shadow that is vague and unclear, which is only collected from various pieces of information, they take a modest and sesempatnya alone, amidst their busy lives to make money of course. And guess what, they practice Islam as chaotic with their understanding.
So what is wrong with the above understanding of Islam? Often times they (or people they refer) formulate Islam from a piece of the argument (the source of Islamic law) only. For example Hadith "Islam is founded on five cases" above. Although textually stated "Islam is founded on ..." or "Islam is built upon ...", limiting understanding of Islam is only one proposition is a very careless act. Actually, the phrase "Islam is founded on ..." or "Islam is built upon ..." can not be used as a reference that the text provide a valid definition of Islam. Sentences are more appropriate in terms of the style of language (Balagha), rather than a formula valid definition.
Just as the Hadith below:
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Final Day then let glorify his guests". (Narrated by Bukhari)
Are we going to say, the only consequence of man is to glorify believers are? Of course not. There are many other obligations that must be fulfilled by a man of faith. Once again, the sentence in the above hadith rather be seen in the context of a style that emphasizes the importance of glorifying guests.
So is Islam?
After collecting all the arguments, whether from Al-Quran atapun Sunnah, can be formulated that Islam is a set of beliefs (faith) and action (charity). In other words, Islam is a religion that contains a bunch of things to be believed, as well as things that must be carried out.
For example, in the Koran there are verses that requires every Muslim to believe certain things:
"O ye who believe, still believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Book which Allah sent down to His Messenger and the Book which Allah sent down before. Anyone who disbelieve in Allah, His angels, His books- His, His messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed that person has strayed far-away. " [4:136]
In other verses others require every Muslim to practice certain things:
"And be steadfast in prayer, and fulfill zakat., And whatever good you try for yourself, of course you will get his reward with Allah. Indeed Alah sees anything you do." [2:110]
"O ye who believe, fasting is obligatory upon you as required above those before you, that ye fear Allah." [2:183]
"O ye who believe, incumbent upon you qishaash regarding people who were killed." [2:178]
"Compulsory upon you to war, but that war is something that you hate. Perhaps you hate something, but he was very good to you, and may be (too) ye dislike a thing, and he is very bad for you; Allah knows, while you do not know . " [2:216]
And there are many scattered various arguments of Al-Quran and As-Sunnah, all of which can be categorized into two groups: things that must be believed (faith) and the things to do (charity).
Even many verses of the Qur'an that textually weave faith and charity as an integral and inseparable:
"And those who believe and work righteous deeds, they are the hosts of heaven, and they will abide therein." [2:82]
"Allah has promised to those who believe and do righteous deeds, (that) for them forgiveness and a great reward." [5:9]
"If these countries if only the faithful and pious, certainly We bestowed upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the verses of Us), then We seized them due to his actions." [7:96]
"And Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will indeed make them rule the earth as He made those before them in power, and indeed He will establish for their religion that has blessed him for them, and he would actually swap the (state of) them, after they are in fear of being safe Sentausa. they still worship me with not associating anything with Me. And those who (still) infidel post (promise), then they are the ones who rebel. "
