Islamic Religion in Australia

 Islamic Religion in Australia

The development of Islam in Australia has penetrated into the Aboriginal communities, indigenous Kangaroo Continent it.
Increase in the number of Aboriginal people who embraced Islam became a phenomenon in itself, although some researchers argue about the increasingly widespread influence of Islam and the reason Aboriginal people who choose to embrace Islam.
In a meeting of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion in Baltimore last October, a number of researchers from Religioscope expose their working papers and media statements about the Muslim community in Australia who said that the increasing of Muslims among Aboriginal communities, especially among young children, a "resurgence" of Islam that swept Aborigines.
But the report mentions a number of sociologists, according to the census of 1996, 2001 and 2006, more and more Aboriginal people who choose "no religion" than Islam.
The percentage of Aboriginal people who declare fewer Muslims (0.22 percent) compared to the total number of Muslims in Australia (1.7 percent). Aboriginal populations who embraced Islam also varied; maayoritas Muslim majority urban Aboriginal urban and mostly men.
But researchers at Religioscope noted that the percentage of Aboriginal men who involve themselves in Islam (58 percent) greater than their involvement in other religions.
These figures related to the history of Islam in Australia. A number of Aboriginal Muslims claim they rebuild their historical identity by converting to Islam, because there is a wave of mixed marriages between Muslim immigrants with Aboriginal people in the 19th century.
The Muslim community is the traders who sailed from the island of Celebes (now Sulawesi) in Indonesia and the Arabs (when it was called "Afghan") who settled in the interior Australia.dan dubbed "Cameleers" or camel.
In addition to intermarriage, they also share a culture, including a number of traditions in Islam. Census 2001 to 2006 showed an increase in the number of Muslims from 622 to 1010 Aboriginal people.
Researchers from Religioscope; Helena Onnudottir, Adam Possamai (University of Western Sydney) and Bryan S. Turner (Wellesley College) in their working paper also reveals that the colonial government and Christian identity of the white dominance over Aboriginal people is likely to be the reason why by the census, the percentage of Aboriginal people who embraced Christianity decline. Pentecostal Christianity, most Christian denominations developed in Australia, it has no place among Aboriginal people.
The researchers conclude, mass media contributed to the growth of Aboriginal Muslim community, which has become an important trend in the development of religion in Australia.
